Backup Ceremony

Backup Ceremony

Mountain weather likes a dramatic entrance. A backup ceremony plan gives your outdoor vows a beautiful indoor understudy in downtown Canmore, styled and ready, so a storm rolling over the Rockies changes the view and nothing else. You marry each other either way; we look after the weather plan.

Nestled in downtown Canmore and minutes from Banff National Park, our light-filled Wedding Loft is designed for flexibility. If the skies are clear, you can have your outdoor “I do” moment with mountain views. But if rain, snow, or surprise winds decide to RSVP, we flip seamlessly indoors. Guests will still experience boutique charm, cozy lounge seating, and an atmosphere that feels elevated, not improvised.

Set it up with traditional ceremony seating, scatter in couches and loft-style lounge spots, or mix and match. It’s your vibe, your way. The layout adapts effortlessly to your vision, giving you the freedom to make it feel intimate, grand, or anywhere in between.

Best part? After the vows, the space transforms into cocktail hour without missing a beat. Rows of chairs can flip into high-tops, lounges become mingling zones, and the patio is still open for those mountain photo ops once the weather clears. You’ll still get the magic, the photos, and the “wow” factor, without the stress of a last-minute scramble.

Our backup ceremony venue is about confidence. Whether Banff gives you sunshine or showers, you get a ceremony that feels boutique, magical, and completely yours.

INQUIRE

  • The plan starts outdoors, with mountain views and an aisle set on the grass, but a fully styled indoor space stays ready the entire time in case the weather has other ideas. Nothing about the indoor version looks improvised: candles, seating and the same care that went into the outdoor site.

If the switch happens, seating moves indoors into the Thrive Room, arranged as traditional rows, couches or a mix, and the ceremony continues without guests losing the thread of the day. Once the vows are done, chairs flip into high-tops and the room turns straight into cocktail hour.

  • What’s included with your backup ceremony plan:

    • Outdoor ceremony site with mountain views
    • A fully styled indoor space held ready alongside it
    • Flexible seating: traditional rows, couches or a mix
    • Fast flip from ceremony seating into cocktail hour
    • Access to the front patio once the weather clears
  • Popular add-ons if the day moves indoors:

    • Decor styling so the indoor space still matches your outdoor vision
    • A mimosa bar for the toast right after
    • Photo corner with backdrop and props while everyone waits out the weather
  • Whichever way the ceremony goes, cocktail hour after keeps the same rules: bring your own food and alcohol, or hire any caterer or bartender you love. Alcohol is BYO under an AGLC Special Event Licence, served indoors with no corkage and no bar minimums.

  • What exactly is a backup ceremony plan?
An indoor space, fully styled and held ready, that the ceremony moves into if the outdoor forecast turns. It’s built into the booking from the start, not arranged last minute.

How fast can we move the ceremony indoors?
Within minutes. The indoor space stays set up and ready throughout your outdoor booking, so nobody scrambles if the sky changes.

Will the indoor version feel like a downgrade?
No. The indoor space gets the same care as the outdoor site: seating, decor and lighting all styled to match, not a stripped-down version of the plan.

Who decides whether to move the ceremony indoors?
You do, with our team’s read on the weather and your comfort level, and we’ll have both spaces ready so the call can happen close to the time.

Does the backup plan cost extra?
No separate booking is needed. The indoor space is part of your outdoor ceremony plan, so tell us your date and guest count and we’ll cover options and availability together.

What kind of seating do we get indoors?
Traditional rows, couches, loft-style spots or a mix, whatever matches the vibe you already planned for outdoors.

Can guests still get outdoor mountain photos if we move inside?
Often, yes. Even after a ceremony moves indoors, the front patio and outdoor spots are usually available once the weather clears for portraits later.

How many guests can the backup ceremony space hold?
It depends on layout: up to 100 for a mingling setup, around 60 seated, or an intimate setup for around 10. Send us your guest count and we’ll confirm the fit.

Does the reception happen in the same space after?
Yes. Chairs flip into high-tops and the room turns over into cocktail hour and the reception that follows, all under one roof.

How far in advance do you decide on the weather?
As close to the ceremony time as makes sense for your comfort. Both spaces stay ready the whole time, so nobody has to call it early.
